he Dementia Friendly Community Initiative – Walworth County supports the unique needs of people with Alzheimer’s and care partners, helping them to remain in their homes longer and providing a better quality of life. We promote 6 memory cafés. Our trainings over 4 years has trained over 50 first responders and others. As the demographics of Walworth doubles by 2040 for those with Alzheimer’s, we will be positioned to better serve them. We bring a lot more to the table than a start-up. We have an outstanding track record, being the first county in Wisconsin to be recognized nationally, excellent relationships and a great future vision.
The Dementia Friendly Community Initiative – Walworth County will work to identify, cultivate and continually support champions in local communities to enable and equip leaders to develop strategies to achieve dementia friendly communities; Increase community awareness through education and by sharing resources; Provide inclusive programs and activities and Foster respect, compassion & support through community outreach
We provide an introductory training for Faith Communities, business’ and more advanced courses for Law Enforcement / First responders & Health Care providers. We are the only agency in the county that can provide this service and certify them as Dementia Friendly.
We are open to serve all residents and those that work in or serve the community as well as individual business’, organizations and all faith communities. There are currently over 2,000 Walworth residents affected by this disease and by 2025 the numbers are expected to increase by 31%
